Actually, this is me. Even if it is a little embarrassing, I want to tell you how i interpret this photo of myself.
Do you know of Tyra Banks' show: "ANTM". Whenever i see that show it enlightens me that things aren't always as easy as it seems and that photography and modeling is an art. Its worth understanding and interpreting, i believe that in every single move we do, we create an identity for ourselves to the person looking at us. It creates a sort of character we long to be, it creates another more confident you.
Back to topic, in the "ANTM" show you can recall her saying these words: "chameleon" and the "smize". These terms although quite unrelated to modelling are terms which are often used in this show. they interpret a meaning. For example. the term "smize" - its short for "smiling eyes" but to be honest how can you have smiling eyes if your not in the slightest smiling. for me the true meaning of this term is that whenever you look at the photo and the first thing you see is the eyes of the model, how it struck you, how deep it is, as if behind those eyes there is a hidden mystery, a hidden story. The expression the "Eyes" are the windows to one's soul, well, it's true. I know of someone, my teacher to be exact, who would always say that she can know one person, know his/ her personality by just looking into his/ her eyes. Weird right? but it clicked to me that it can, it is possible.
This picture was taken when i was apparently trying to look at the photographer and the photographer took that exact moment when my eyes went to her direction. you might be wondering why take the picture sideways and not affront because when you consider it you could look better into the eyes of that person if it was taken that way. well, let me just say that this photo was purely coincidental taken before i was conscious enough to know that my picture was being taken and it also means its not purely modelling also. At that time I was gonna do a performance in front of a lot of people and well i was feeling a lot of things: anticipation, anxiety, excitement, frustration, nervousness, happiness and at the same time i felt confident. As I saw this picture taken of me, i saw all that, all those feelings mixed together in to that expression and i also thought it looked a little snobby because of those eyes also but all in all i liked it, i appreciated it and so here i am am explaining to you this.
I don't exactly know, if this photo of me can represent all that i have said because i am still an amateur at this but to be exact with what i mean i want you to recall that girl who Tyra would always complement because of her permanent "Smize". You know the girl with very big eyes and doll-like face. its quite unusual but that gave her her edge and she is my example for this article. So here is a much better photo of her:
